For about 13 years I have struggled each day to get done what I wanted.  I was never as productive as I wanted to be.  I sought help from books, webinars, family and friends, but I never seemed to get traction or make lasting progress.

"I realized it's impossible to get older people to change what they've been doing or the way they accomplish tasks.  I realize that I have become set in my ways, but my body is not able to keep up with what my mind thinks I can accomplish.  One of my favorite activities is gardening, and my mind tells me that I can still do it all, but my back says "no way!"  You helped me find solutions in order for me to continue to enjoy gardening by taking rest periods, changing tasks before my back starts to ache, and cutting back on garden size.  This way I can continue to enjoy gardening along with providing others with the fruits of my labors,  You helped me realize that I am happy and receive much joy in growing fruits and vegetables for myself and others.

"I’m so glad that a friend suggested that I try nurse-coaching.  It has been extremely timely and helpful over the last few weeks. 

 

Therese’s assistance appeared at a perfect time for me, when things were not yet critical, but heading toward burnout.  At this point, we are 1.5 years into COVID, working with critically ill patients in a nearly constantly understaffed MICU.  The nurses on my unit are physically and emotionally exhausted from the high death rates, emotional families, and frustrated with the number of patients who (for varied reasons) have chosen not to protect themselves with vaccines.  

 

Usually, after a tough day at work, we are able to go home to our families to unwind and recharge.  However, COVID has changed much of that too.  Home is not as it was.  Many spouses are out of work or working from home.  Kids are often going to school “virtually” or home quarantined, and suffering from lack of structure, lack of social activities, and lack of extracurricular activities.  Family members are scared, ill, and working through their own emotional difficulties with our present life.  We are struggling with difficulties on every front, and no break in sight. 

 

We are very weary…

 

Having a nurse coach was extremely helpful.  Because Therese has been an ICU nurse, she quickly and completely understood my situation. I didn’t need to spend a lot of time explaining the details of my work life and why it was stressful.  She also understood the stresses of everyday life: trying to be present emotionally for kids/spouse, trying to physically care for myself, but lacking time for diet/exercise.

 

Therese was able to provide resources and insights to my struggles with work life and home life.  Her questions and perspective helped me to identify exactly what was difficult with each situation and how the stress was affecting me both physically and emotionally.  She helped me to re-frame situations and be more positive with myself.  Therese was prompt and helpful in providing quality resources.  She introduced me to several practices including mindfulness and relaxation, and pointed out ways to incorporate more positive perspective and habits into my daily life.

 

After each session, Therese sent an email update with a summary of our session, the points we discussed, recommended follow-up, and helpful resources.  She was flexible and adjusted easily to find solutions that fit my lifestyle and personality, and let me guide the agenda with each session.  Therese was objective in her analysis and was able to point out observations that I hadn’t realized about myself, then use those tendencies to provide useful recommendations that suited me.

 

I would highly recommend nurse coaching to my coworkers.  While worklife is not likely to change anytime soon, I’m now better equipped to cope.  Therese helped me to develop positive habits and stress relief.  I found nurse coaching to be extremely helpful, and would not hesitate to reach out to Therese in the future when I desired some assistance”.

"Before I started the coaching sessions with Therese, I felt very anxious, overwhelmed with my walking, my household chores, and my kids did not wanting to participate in household chores while I was recovering from my stem cells transplant. Therese, my nursing coach, helped me learn how to relax and breathe when I got anxious, helped me figure out how to take care of myself first, along with having my kids step in and help out with the chores. She even helped me create a chart for my kids to use. The chart was very helpful, showing them which chore to do, and when for some reason they couldn't do their chores because of some other obligations, they had to do it instead another time.

 

We also talked about how important resting was for me during the day, and the importance of restful sleep at night. Practice walking in small increments around the house and always following physical therapeutic advice advanced me toward recovery. I used this advice very often and today I’m proud to say I've been discharged from physical therapy due to the goals I've met. I also feel less anxious now and feel more capable of participating more with my family.

 

Therese was very understanding and passionate about coaching me, very understanding, and patient. She has great listening skills and great advice on what to do in case I run into adversity. I highly recommend Therese as a nursing coach to anybody who has difficulty dealing with the stress that comes with everyday life.
